Establishment

The Ministry of Transport was established in January, 2009 by re-aligning the functions of the erstwhile Ministries of Aviation, Harbours and Railways and the Road Transport Services.

Why It Was Started

The Ministry was created to establish an accessible, affordable, reliable, effective and efficient transport system that meets user needs in Ghana.

Specifically, the Ministry aims to:

  • Integrate land use, transport planning, development planning and service provision
  • Create a vibrant investment and performance based management environment
  • Develop and implement comprehensive and integrated policy frameworks
  • Ensure sustainable development in the Transport Sector
  • Develop adequate Human Resources and apply new technology
